Originally the Foreign Language Division of Kaohsiung College of Technology.
The four-year undergraduate program was established in 2001.
The department-affiliated Language Center was established in 2005.
The Language Center was affiliated to the College of Humanities in 2009.
The department currently has eight classes of undergraduate (ca. 443) students.
The MA Program in English Professional Communication and Instructional Technology
and the two-year undergraduate continuing education program were established in August 2011.
Provide practice-oriented professional communication skill training in English
The mandate of the department is to train students to acquire not only the basic language
proficiency in listening, speaking reading, writing, translation, and interpretation, but also
communicative competence in English for various professions at the workplace.
Increase and focus research output
The full-time faculty members of the department have demonstrated increasing output in both quality and quantity
in the past few years. Each year the department administers an international seminar on themes related to
“English for Professional Communication and Educational Technology.” The master program, debuted in 2011,
provides integrated courses of research in professional communication and educational technology to comply with
the spirit of the department by integrating foreign language learning with practical training.
Provide strong links of student internships with professional services
The department encourages students to participate volunteer services to utilize their classroom
learning in various professional settings. The services include tour interpretation and reception for
the local government and corporations. The department strives to expand the opportunities for student
practicum and strengthens the cooperation with industries to facilitate student employment after graduation.
Optimize specialized course concentrations for students
